KJVOCABULARY
Version 1.1
PURPOSE:
Anyone who has read the King James translation of
the Bible at any length knows that there are many words
that are found in the English text that have long since
passed out of our modern vocabulary. Words like "Anon",
"Wist", and "Concupiscence" leave many a reader puzzled
as to their meanings. "KJVocabulary" was written to
help the modern reader better understand the meaning of
these archaic Bible words.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any IBM PC or true compatible with 256K RAM (or
above) and using DOS 3.0 and above will run
"KJVocabulary". The program requires one disk drive and
will work with both monochrome and color monitors.
LOADING THE PROGRAM:
Insert the "KJVocabulary" diskette into a drive.
Set your working drive to the same drive where the
diskette is located. For instance, if the "KJVocabulary"
disk in located in drive A:, then enter ---> A: [ENTER]
at the DOS prompt. Then to load the program simply
type ---> KJVOCAB [ENTER]. The program will load
automatically. Users with color monitors who would like
to run the program in monochrome, start the program --->
KJVOCAB /MONO [ENTER]. Once the program loads, you will
first be greeted with a title screen. After this the
Main Menu will appear. From this Main Menu the user has
several choices:
Main Menu
---------------------------------
Proceed with vocabulary test
Dictionary
Notes/facts of interest
Instructions/documentation
Return to D.O.S.
The user makes a selection by using the cursor
control keys (up arrow, down arrow, home, end, etc.) to
move the highlighted marker bar over one's choice, then
by pressing the [ENTER] or [RETURN] key. The [ESC] key
will take the user to the previous menu selection.
VOCABULARY TEST:
How well is your knowledge of the words found in the
King James Version of the Bible? This option from the
Main Menu allows the user to be quizzed for the meaning
of many words found in the A.V. Skill levels from
Beginner to Advanced are available. The user even has
the option of repeating those words which they have
incorrectly answered.
After the user selects an answer out of four
possible answers, the program will respond with a CORRECT
or INCORRECT window. Correct responses receive points
based upon the vocabulary word's skill level:
BEGINNER = 50 INTERMEDIATE = 100 ADVANCED = 150
In addition, another window towards the bottom of
the screen will display the context in which that word
can be found in the A.V. text. If the verses can not be
seen completely within this window, use the cursor
control keys to scroll the text. Pressing [ENTER] will
allow the user to continue with the next vocabulary
word. [ESC] will return the user to the Main Menu.
DICTIONARY:
"KJVocabulary" is not just a test of one's knowledge
of the words found in the A.V., but this program is also
a handy reference tool. The dictionary option from the
Main Menu gives the user quick access to a list of all
the vocabulary words within this program. A hardcopy of
this dictionary can also be sent to any printer attached
to LPT1: by choosing the appropriate selection from the
Dictionary Menu.
